The Kuryk port of Kazakhstan will cooperate with the Anaklia port of Georgia. The memorandum of cooperation was signed in Tbilisi. A deep Black sea port of Georgia hasn’t been built yet. The construction of port’s foundation will begin on December 20. Representatives of Anaklia are looking for reliable partners.

TAGAN OSPANOV, DEPUTY CEO, KURYK PORT:
- We will cooperate to develop the Kuryk sea port. All cargo passes through Baku and Georgia and the Anaklia port is chosen to send our cargoes to Europe.

The Anaklia satellite city will develop along with the port of the same name. The airport, the railway, hotels and residential complexes will be built in the city. Most importantly industrial zones will be built, which will make this place an industrial center both of Georgia and the entire region.

LEVAN AKHVLEDIANI, CEO, ANAKLIA DEVELOPMENT CONSORTIUM:
- We will receive the first ships in 2020. We plan several stages of development. The first phase implies that the port will be able to receive about 8 million tonnes of cargo. In total there will be 9 stages of development. The total cost of the project is US$2.5 billion. It will be a multifunctional port that will have the capacity to receive all types of cargo. After completion of all steps of development, the port will be able to receive about 100 million tonnes of all sorts of cargo.

By using services of the Anaklia port it will be possible to save time and money. Georgia is also interested in agreements on free trade which were concluded with the countries of Europe, China and the CIS states. Therefore, investors are interested in projects on location their productions here.

GIORGI GAGANIDZE, GEORGIAN EXPERT ON ECONOMY:
- Given the Anaklia port’s location and other opportunities, the port will help reduce the time of transportation from Asia to Europe by half.

The Anaklia port will start functioning in 2020, but the consortium has already signed agreements on cooperation with Kazakhstan, China, Azerbaijan and etc. This shows the project’s relevance and its importance for development of transport corridors in the region.
