The 12th "Discover Mongolia International Mining Investors" forum (IMIF) took place in Ulaanbaatar on the 4 and 5 of September.
The Forum aims to be a bridge between and among the Mongolian mineral sector stakeholders – the industry, the government and the civil society for a more constructive cooperation.
It was co-organized by the Ministry of mining and Mongolian National Mining Association. Mining Minister D.Gankhuyag noted in his opening speech at the forum that Mongolia is improving its legal environment to attract more investment. “Now the situation will improve. In view of this, the State Great Khural re-adopted the investment law and amended the laws on minerals and petroleum last year" Mining minister said.
The forum was held at the period when foreign direct investment in Mongolia dropped by 70 percent in the first half of 2014.
The participants gave presentations and held discussions on topics such as “ The Legal Environment”, “The gold and coal prices”, “Project financing” and “Geologic Exploration”. After that, the branch meeting on rare earth elements was held. In a frame of the forum, state and private organizations have displayed their activities.
