The natural preservation policy of the Oyutoilgoi project which is one of the largest in the world copper and gold deposits and is carried out in southern part of the territory of Mongolia, is an integral part of its business activities.
The project crew pursues an aim to prevent negative impact of the project activities on the environment and conserve the nature, water, and biological diversity in its original view and state. Despite its harsh climate, Gobi is rich in various kinds of rare and endangered flora and fauna. A plant survey conducted on the Oyutolgoi project site registered 158 species of plants. With a view to avoid and reduce negative impacts on the environment in the course of the mining activities, a focus is made on maintain favorable space for the wildlife to prevent their escape, to keep the plant layer less eroded, and to reclaim fully the site.

As a result of many-year researches and experiments, over 150 hectares of area had been underwent biological reclamation and 802.25 hectares – technical reclamation by the end of 2011. While carrying out the biological reclamation, seeds of native perennial plants have been sown and trees are seed in a tree seed center. Reclamation works will be done in phases will allow shutting the mine upon the project completion in accordance with deliberately designed plan with less danger.
