People in the capital city of Mongolia widely celebrated Wednesday the 375th anniversary of their native town. This day, wide range of spectacular and exciting events and festivities took place in the Chinggis Khaan square.
Ulaanbaatar is the political, economic and cultural center of the country. The city was first founded in the current territory of Bogd soum of Uvurkhangai aimag in 1639.
Thereafter, the name of the city was changed for several times. It was initially named Urgoo in 1639-1706, Ikh Khuree in 1706-1911, Niislel Khuree in 1911-1923 and just after the proclamation of the Mongolian People’s Republic in 1924, the first Great Khural /parliament/ passed a decision to rename Niislel Khuree as Ulaanbaatar legalizing its status as the capital city.
The law on Capital city’s legal status was adopted in 1994.
At present, the master plan for developing Ulaanbaatat up to 2020 has been updated and has begun to be carried out. The city of Ulaanbaatar is a unique city that manages despite the prevalence of modern buildings and structures to still preserve its places of historic and cultural value, most having been turned into museums and sightseeing places.
