The 32nd session of the FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific kicked off on March 10 in Ulaanbaatar city, Mongolia.
The conference has invited Ministers of 46 countries on food, agriculture, forest and fishery affairs. They are discussing the opportunities and challenges in the region and priority areas of work to improve food security and nutrition, increase agricultural productivity, raise the standard of living in rural populations and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
Participants at the conference are also considering issues of an agricultural situation in the Asia-Pacific region and an implementation course of a goal for reducing hunger by 50% which is involved in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Moreover, the participants are touching upon issues of rehabilitation of pasture lands and forests, introducing environmentally-friendly agricultural technologies, improving the food safety in island states of Pacific and landlocked countries, and augmenting the quality of foods in the region.
