A project is underway for naturalizing red deers /Cervus elaphus/ in Gobi desert Umnugobi aimag which is situated in Gobi region of Mongolia. Survey conducted by locals and scholars has indicated that there is a possibility for naturalizing the red deer in Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Eight years ago, a female deer that has migrated here could survive so far. Albeit there is no scientific explanation why the red deer shows up in Gobi region, the female deer gave the scholars an optimistic approach who have brought 10 more red deer in Gobi. Two of them are male and eight others are female. The locals accepted this phenomenon with appreciation and promised to protect these animals. However, there are many petroglyphs found in Umnugobi aimag in support of proving the fact that the Gobi region had used to be inhabited by deer.
