An Azerbaijani delegation has joined Meeting in Beijing Arts Festival in China. An Event on Azerbaijani music has been arranged at the Beijing Concert Hall.

Addressing the ceremony, official of Chinese Ministry of Culture Zhao Haisheng highlighted the history and current state of Azerbaijani-Chinese cultural relations.

He also stressed the importance of such festivals and concerts in terms of bringing the two nations closer to each other.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to China Latif Gandilov said such projects contribute to the culture of both countries.

The event featured performance of Azerbaijani national mugham.

The 15th Meet in Beijing Arts Festival saw 42 art troupes and 104 bands from 25 countries and regions perform more than 100 indoor shows and 50 outdoor galas.

The festival opened with a performance by dancers from the National Ballet of China, including Ma Xiaodong and Wang Ye, and American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Isabella Boylston and Boston Ballet principal dancer Paulo Arrais.

The Brigham Young University, one of the largest private universities in the United States, has performed in China more than 30 times. This year, the Brigham Young University Singers performed in China for the first time at Tsinghua University and at Beihang University. The choir performed a variety of pieces, ranging from classical, folk to Broadway music in its concerts, Music of the Masters.

Other art troupes from the US included the Georgia Boy Choir, the William and Mary Wind Ensemble and the Richmond Ballet.

Isao Tomita, a pioneering Japanese electronic music artist, is one of the headliners of the festival. The 82-year-old composer, who was born in Tokyo and spent his early childhood with his father in China, will bring his Symphony Ihatov to his "second hometown" on May 20 at the Century Theater.

Zhang Huoding, one of China's leading Peking Opera stars, closde the festival with Reunion in the Dream and Suolin Purse at the National Center for the Performing Arts.

More than 30 DJs from the US and European countries performed at Beijing Intro Electronic Music Festival at Chaoyang Park in Beijing.
