Beijing hosts 1st Media Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization

The 1st Media Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has been held in Beijing, China. The event brought together heads and representatives of media organizations of SCO member, observer states and dialogue partners.

Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) Aslan Aslanov, who is also president of News Agencies World Congress and the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA), represented Azerbaijan as a dialogue partner at the Media Summit.

Addressing the Media Summit, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Huang Kunming said that such an initiative was first announced by the first President of People's Republic of China Xi Jinping at the summit of heads of the SCO member states. He described the media as an important tool for uniting nations and promoting peace and development.
Then the signing ceremony was held. Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) and Xinhua news agency signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of exchange of information.

The agreement envisages daily exchange of news, photo and video sharing and social media cooperation between the two agencies. Under the agreement, the sides will conduct regular exchange of experience between new media editors and IT specialists.
