Archeologists of the Mongolian-German Karakorum Expedition have called a press conference during which they have displayed the rarest archeological findings preserved in the Karakorum museum.
During the excavation works performed in 2014 in the ancient capital Karakorum by the expedition, many interesting findings including golden and silver coins of Chinggis Khaan’s era were revealed.
If in more detail, a consecrated placement of relics in a stupa to khans /kings/ of the 13th century was found underneath of entrance stand of the temple named “Great temple of Tsogt”. The temple symbolizes that the Great Mongol Empire will prosper forever.
The consecrated placement consisting of nine treasures wrapped in silk, crop and fruit was put inside a big vase with clay cap. Treasures were represented by 2 golden coins, 3 silver coins and several items made of coral, pearl, turquoise, copper and steel. One of two golden coins is made in Samarkand and belonged to the Chinggis Khan’s period while silver coins were made during the Munkh Khan's rule. This is a unique historical testimony.
The archeologists from Mongolia and Germany are now preserving these artifacts in the Karakorum museum for further research. By the way, a project has already begun for the construction of an open museum for preserving the archeological remains of the abovementioned temple.
