The Project developer from Germany “Ferrostaal Industrial Projects” company is going to begin construction work of its Sainshand Wind Farm in April.
The 54 megawatt facility with 27 turbines which is considered to become the biggest wind farm in Mongolia will be located on a wind-raked ridge about 460 km southwest of Ulaanbaatar.
The study has indicated that the average wind speed at the construction site was 7.4 meters per second which shows that Mongolia has huge wind energy resources. The new wind park will deliver 52 megawatts to Mongolia’s electrical power network.
A power purchase agreement for the park has been signed with the state-owned energy supplier, the National Power Transmission Grid Company and construction work will be financed by leading international development banks and finished in 2016.
An estimated $115 million will be spent on the construction of a new park
Mongolia is seeking to diversify its energy supplies, now heavily reliant on coal-fired power plants, with a goal of increasing its energy production from renewables to 20 percent by 2020.
