The Government in its regular meeting held on Monday took the decision to shift to the Summer time starting from 2 o’clock of the night from Friday to Saturday of the last week of March or from 27th to 28th of March.
The Daylight saving time (DST) or summer time is the practice of resetting all clocks in the region to one hour ahead during summer months so that light extends into the evening hours. Supporters of DST say that it is an effective way to save energy. For example, in Mongolia, according to a study conducted in 1998, the utilization of natural light saves 23 million kw/hour of energy. Putting clocks forward benefits retailing, sports, and other activities that use sunlight after working hours. Supporters of this system say that business hours will end earlier; giving to the workers more time to be spent with their families.
Summer time was adopted three times in Mongolia - in 1983, 1985 and 2001. Under the resolution of Government issued in 1985, on the last Sunday of every March clocks were turned forward an hour and clocks were adjusted backward to the regular time on the last Sunday of September,
