This year Mongolia is expected to receive totally 12 millions of young animals. Thus, the number of our livestock will be reached 45 millions of head.
As the country with four well-defined seasons and five types of domesticated animals as sheep, coat, cattle, camel and horse, Mongolia is needed in proper livestock breeding method compatible with any seasons of the year. Mongolians are only people in the world who could keep the heritage of nomadic civilization in the full sense of the word. Since ancient times, livestock breeding has been their main livelihood and herders are experienced in moving due to their pastoral life style.
Wintertime in the country is very cold and sometimes temperature falls down up to -50 degrees and more. Such harsh climate causes a hard spring and herders frequently met with weakness. It, of cause, requires a special policy and more attention from the central Government.
This year the numbers of provinces faced the heavy wintering are passing the spring in difficult situation. Thus, there is much work to be done to assist these provinces. Nowadays, relief-fund teams are working for long days in local area so as to deliver Government aids to herders.
The herder-families in Mongolia have mostly several hundreds of animals, some of them keeps 2 or 3 thousands and even more heads of livestock.
In recent years, the Government of Mongolia is paying more attention to putting animal-originated raw materials to economic use. At the same time, a quality of skins, hides, wool and cashmere of Mongolian animals are highly appreciated in the world market which fuels interest of herders to breed their livestock intensively.
