Mongolians have celebrated the International Children’s Day nationwide.
Mongolia has been marking June 1 as a “Children’s festival” since 1952 and one of the few countries, which declared this day as a holiday at the national level by law.
On June 1, the children and youth bring together in several biggest squares of the capital of Mongolia. However, the main events hold in the central square named after D.Sukhbaatar, a national hero, as well as the national culture and recreation center. Apart from a lot of cultural and art performances and entertainment measures, this day drivers of any kind of vehicles give respect to their children by switching on their headlights when they take part in the road traffic.
uyan_mn: Mongolians have the ancient tradition for specially observing the children’s right. People’s tradition teaches to honor kids from early childhood. It means to give them care and respect generously, but not to let them have their own way.
On children’s joyful day which comes only once a year, the parents and every family strive to let their children to be more happy and pleased as they wish. Also, discussions hold nationwide on issues how to provide children with broad opportunity to live healthy, obtain good quality of education, take part in the social life and be protected from any pressure and violence.
uyan_mn: The Mongolian Children’s Organization and Movement was established on May 8, 1925 for the first time at initiative of group of enthusiastic youth. Late, as the country of children and youth, Mongolia joined the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990. Then, the country enacted the law on protection of children’s right in conformity with the above convention and started to observe it from June 1, 1996.
