The US Embassy to Mongolia has launched an Air Quality Monitoring program. In the margin of this, air pollutant fine particles - PM 2.5 are being measured. The results of air quality monitoring with the help of Met One BAM 1020 instrument, certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency, are posted on stateair.mn on hourly basis. Such instruments are monitoring the amount of PM 2.5 in the air around Selbe river bridge and “100 ail” microdistrict. PM 2.5 is considered hazardous pollutant that causes cancer.
“The US Embassy to Mongolia is happy to cooperate with the domestic air quality monitoring organizations and contribute in addressing and fighting air pollution. We believe that hourly results of air quality monitoring through these instruments will be of certain help in activating the implementation information-based actions toward reducing health risks caused by air pollution. Air pollution is a problem which has no boundaries. Therefore, we hope that our effort on raising awareness by providing hourly information about air pollution can serve in making creative and proper decisions toward improving air quality”
Cost of each internationally recognized and modern hi-tech instrument is 22 thousand US Dollars. Results produced by these instruments have 95 % accuracy. Unfortunately, results of PM 2.5 level during mornings and evenings indicates amount that is threatening for health. In some cases, the instruments show that PM 2.5 level is “immeasurable”. As of 4 pm, the instrument indicated “red”, which is a critical level.
