Morin khuur is a national musical instrument with a rich history and legend the Mongolians put it at the most respectful place in their home. Morin khuur is a horse headed fiddle with two strings made of hairs of horse’s tail. Named after the musical instrument the Morin Khuur Ensemble marks its 20th anniversary this year.
Set up by a Government resolution the ensemble serves to inherit, spread and pass over Morin Khuur which is the history of the Mongolian people and symbol of their lifestyle and thoughts. The ensemble comprises over 30 professional musicians from morin khuur, zither and ethno jazz ensembles troupes who undertaken a respectful duty to promote unique Mongolian folklore abroad.
The Morin Khuur ensemble has performed on numerous prestigious scenes of the world including Carnegie Hall, USA; UN hall, UNESCO hall in France, Vienna Philharmonic hall, Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, and on scenes in China, Japan, Korea, Italy, Canada, and Turkey to win prestigious prizes for their exciting performances.
The ensemble developing traditional and oriental classic musical arts in combination with modern arts has named its second concert devoted to its 20th jubilee as “World music and Morin Khuur”. At the concert, it is expected to perform the best works staged in last twenty years. At the concert, world classical and modern music have been performed by Mongolian musicians with Mongolian national musical instruments. The performance has been greatly applauded by the audience, including a large number of foreigners.
