Website of the President of Mongolia (president.mn) has gone into a version of Mongolian traditional script.
Visitors of the President’s website will be able to access to the traditional Mongolian version (president.mn/mng/) using Internet Explorer browser, without installing specific fonts to their computers. New version is aimed at increasing official use of the Mongolian national script.
In July of 2010, the President Ts.Elbegdorj issued a decree to promote the use of the traditional Mongolian script, and this decree came into force from July 1, 2011. Within the decree, all official letters by President, Speaker, Prime Minster and members of cabinet to officials of other countries shall be written in the traditional Mongolian script and will be translated to the language of the receiving country or any of the official languages of the United Nations and be attached. Moreover, copies in the traditional script must be attached to all ID card of citizen, birth certificate, certificates and diplomas of all educational organizations.
Having 1,000-year history, Mongolian traditional script is the precious heritage of Mongolians. It is perhaps considered as one of the genres of fine arts thanks to its unique description of calligraphy.
In 2013, the calligraphy of Mongolian script was registered in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
