Every year, on World Press Freedom Day we, Mongolian journalists together with journalists from around the world pay tribute to our colleagues who were killed doing their job or for their reports and articles.
According to the International Federation of Journalists, since 2010, totally 675 journalists across the world lost their lives while carrying out their job. Unfortunately, 9 of 10 murder cases against the journalists remain uncovered.
It tells that a safety of reporters is not always guaranteed. For that reason, UNESCO has adopted a resolution # 29 on the safety of journalists and the danger of impunity.
Although there was in Mongolia only one case when journalist died while doing his job, we are seeing the increasing number of cases that violate the right of publicity.
According to the Globe International center, the group working on freedom of expression, information and media, there were 57 reported cases of violence and intimidation against journalists in Mongolia.
