Today, a prize-giving ceremony of the video contest on disaster risk reduction which was announced in the frame of the AMCDRR 2018, was held.

About 40 documentaries by Asia-Pacific region countries were submitted to the UNISDR and films ‘Togetherness to overcome the dzud disaster’ by Mercy Corps Mongolia and ‘Heat wave’ by a 13-year old Indian boy Rameshwar Mihir Bhat ’ were selected as the ‘Best video’ and received cash prize of USD 4,000.00 each.

The video contest was organized under the theme “Preventing Disaster Risk: Protecting Sustainable Development’ and sub-themes such as ‘The human impact’, ‘Innovation and Technology’ and ‘Community resilience’ with the aims to ensure public engagement in disaster risk reduction, demonstrate benefits of public engagement in disaster risk reduction, advocate for risk prevention, and promote concept of sustainable development.

The documentaries were judged based on criteria such as theme relevancy, scope, attitude to public, creativity, and innovative approach by juries comprised of members of the UNISDR and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and the Mongolian National Broadcaster (MNB).
