The best international green energy projects will be presented at Expo 2017. Zhambyl region will present technologies of both working enterprises and promising projects. The region is successfully developing green economy projects by utilizing solar, wind and hydropower. There are 9 renewable energy power stations producing 114 megawatts of electricity per hour, which are transported through Kazakhstan’s single energy network. Zhualy power station is the biggest one in Central Asia. It produces 50 megawatts of power per hour.

ERIK KUSHERBAYEV, HEAD OF REGIONAL ENERGY DEPARTMENT:

We sent our proposal to the Energy Ministry. I think they will support us because this is one of the first large-scale green economy projects in Kazakhstan. We plan to expand production and build the second set of power stations with the capacity of 50 megawatts per hour. It is planned to partially use panels made in Kazakhstan.

There are wind turbine generators in Kordai. Local climate allows continuously produce electricity. At present, there are 50 such generators in the region. There are also 4 hydropower stations. In total, all these power stations produced 280 million kilowatt of energy last year and production will be further increased. Local scientists are now developing new green energy devices. This generator was developed at the local university and is ready for use. It is designed for farmers and produces up to 8 kilowatts of electricity. The generator can be used to pump water from deep wells. All the parts of the generator were manufactured in Kazakhstan.

TOLEUGAZY TOKTAGANOV, CANDIDATE OF TECHNICAL SCIENCES:

The main advantage is the fact that device is portable. Kazakhstan assembles the most advanced version of the device taking into consideration strong winds and other climate conditions. We have patented this invention. If there is a growing demand the local plant can launch mass production.

According to experts, the total share of renewable energy will reach 3% of the total demand by 2020. Zhambyl region will cover up to 50% of the local demand with the help of its ‘green’ power stations.
