President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has been honored with the 2015 South-South Awards.

President Ilham Aliyev was awarded for his contributions to the improvement of welfare of the population, diminishing the illiteracy and poverty as well as the actions taken in the successful implementation of the Millennium Development Goals.

The ceremony of the 2015 South-South Awards was held in New York on September 26.

On behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the award.

The South-South Awards was co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, South-South Steering Committee for Sustainable Development, International Telecommunication Union, International Organization for South-South Cooperation as well as the UN member states, agencies and funds. This award is given to those countries which achieved consistent results according to the UN reports at the agriculture and food security, as well as the Millennium Development Goals.
