The UN adopted a historical document - a statement by the President of the Security Council on conflict prevention and preventive diplomacy in the regional context. This is the first politically binding international act developed under the leadership of Kazakhstan. As experts note, such acts of the Security Council have never had a focus on broad resolution of local problems around the world within the general model.

For the first time, at the suggestion of Astana, the non-proliferation was included into the comprehensive conflict prevention strategy as one of its components in the UNSC. Poland supports initiatives of Kazakhstan. Poland started working as a non-permanent member of the Security Council in January 2018. Kazakhstan became the first president of the body for the maintenance of peace and security Poland started working with. The Permanent Representative of Poland to the United Nations, Joanna Wronecka, considers this a good start to an important mission.

JOANNA WRONECKA, PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF POLAND TO THE UNITED NATIONS:
- We are very precise a non-permanent member of the Security Council to support Kazakhstan during the presidency of this important body. We find that Kazakhstan presented a very rich program for January presidency. We appreciate the fact that you are organizing a briefing on the non-proliferation problems and also another meeting of the Security Council on Afghanistan since of course Afghanistan is placed in Central Asia.

Kazakhstan is effectively working as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. This is evidenced by the fact that the member states welcomed the proposals announced by Nursultan Nazarbayev at the Security Council meeting, head of the Central Asian Division of the Chinese Institute of Contemporary International Relations, Deng Xiaoxing, says. According to him, not every country receives such an honor. Kazakhstan undertook a responsible mission in the maintenance of regional stability and global security. President Nursultan Nazarbayev highlighted the need to address the threat of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. The expert believes that influential countries should pay special attention to this.

DENG XIAOXING, STAFF, CHINA INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS:
- North Korea nuclear crisis was one of the most discussed topics in 2017. The United States and China have tried to resolve this problem, but there are still no concrete results. In his address to the meeting, President Nazarbayev suggested North Korea to follow Kazakhstan’s experience in nuclear disarmament. A number of important presidential proposals can certainly serve as a new aspect in the nuclear disarmament of the Korean peninsula. A lot will have to be done.
