Baku, December 10, AzerTAc

Italian journalists, who are visiting Azerbaijan, have met Director General of Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AzerTAc) Aslan Aslanov.

Cristiana Missori, a freelancer at ANSA news agency, and Rossella Fabiani, contributor to L'Osservatore Romano and Il Messaggero newspapers, said they seek close relations with the Azerbaijani media.

The AzerTAc Director General said his agency started to cooperate with ANSA in 2005, adding the two agencies maintain active collaboration as part of the European Alliance of News Agencies. He provided an insight into AzerTAc`s history and achievements, as well as the agency`s role in ensuring the government`s information policy. He also said Baku would host the 16th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia Pacific News Agencies (OANA) and the 5th News Agencies World Congress in 2016, adding AzerTAc would chair these two organizations.

The Italian journalists said their visit aims to better know Azerbaijan and collect material about the country.

The AzerTAc Director General said Azerbaijan built the first parliamentary republic in the East. “The first opera in the East was also written by an Azerbaijani composer,” he said.

He also highlighted President Ilham Aliyev`s internal and foreign policy, saying: “Azerbaijan has become the regional leader and now has a strong say on the global scale.”

The AzerTAc Director General also praised Azerbaijani-Italian relations. He lauded the role of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in restoring historical and architectural monuments in Italy and promoting Azerbaijani culture in the country.

They discussed a wide range of issues, including latest media trends, the role of news agencies as a reliable source of information, and influence of social networks on traditional media.
