On September 28, 2015, President of Mongolia Mr Elbegdorj attended the Leaders' Summit on Peacekeeping at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The President of the US Barack Obama chaired a summit of world leaders at the United Nations to garner commitments to boost the capacity and capabilities of U.N. peacekeeping and to allow the world body to deploy forces more rapidly if a new operation is created.
Since its dispatch of two military observers in 2002, Mongolia has become a significant contributor to UN peacekeeping missions. As of today, the country has sent over 12 000 troops to serve in hot spots around the world.
