Mongolia successfully organized 2016 parliamentary and local elections. Voter turnout across the country was 72.1 percent which increased by 6.2 percent compared to that for 2012 Elections. Moreover, the General Election Committee highlighted the highest participation rate among youth which was seen during these Elections.
According to final results of the elections reported on June 30 at around 9 o’clock a.m, the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) won the majority of seats or 65 seats in parliament, the Democratic Party -- 9 seats, the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP)--one seat, and an independent candidate--one seat. 2016 Elections were specific for using for the first time progressive electronic machine which allowed update results of voting every 20 seconds for each candidate.
Mongolia used over again an electronic machine in counting ballots. According to the election law, in case of disputes, checkout counting shall be conducted manually. Fortunately, there has been no complaint and disputes in this regard and the current elections were held in peaceful atmosphere, said Mr Ch. Sodnomtseren, the head of General Election Committee.
