President of Mongolia Elbegdorj Tsakhia paid a working visit to Japan on July 21 to 24.
In frames of the visit, the President met the Prime Minister of Japan Mr Shinzo Abe, and signed a joint statement. The President also addressed a Mongolia-Japan business forum held in the headquarters of the Japan Business Federation, Tokyo.
The Mongolia-Japan business forum has a great importance of lifting the bilateral cooperation in all levels, Mr Elbegdorj said. In the past few years our GDP has grown several-fold. The engine of our economic growth – the private sector – has firmly stood up on its legs. The time has come now to advance our bilateral economic relations to a new level, and it is precisely within these premises that we are meeting in Tokyo today,” he emphasized.
Mongolia is located in a special place. We border with two countries with the largest population and with the largest territory. Developing cooperation with Mongolia is consonant with the aspiration to reach out to these two huge markets together,” he highlighted.
The business forum brought together some 310 delegates of Japan and Mongolia.
Following the forum, the President Elbegdorj and the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held official talks. During the official talks, the parties reached a broad agreement for establishing an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), and then signed a joint statement which has clauses on specializing Mongolian industries and widening the export of value-added products, reforming the economic structure, appointing an economic consultant from Japan to realize a sustainable economy of Mongolia and increasing the trade and investments between the countries.
