At the invitation by President of Mongolia Mr Elbegdorj, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Mr U Thein Sein arrived Sunday in Ulaanbaatar for a state visit. He was welcomed by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Mr L.Purevsuren and other officials at the Chinggis Khaan International Airport.
On Monday at the welcoming ceremony for the President of Myanmar held at the Chinggis Khaan square, the honor guards were formed and the state hymns of the two countries were sounded. This visit is highlighted as the first state visit of the President of Myanmar to Mongolia since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1956.
After the ceremony, President of Mongolia Mr Elbegdorj held a tete-a-tete meeting with President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Mr U Thein Sein at the State Ceremonial Ger Palace.
Both parties hope that the visit will contribute to promoting the development of bilateral relations, enhancing people-to-people relations and strengthening legal environment for mutual partnership. The two Presidents have expressed their opinion on deepening mutual cooperation in mining and tourism sectors and in supporting relations between the two capital cities.
After the official talks between the two Presidents, Minister of Environment, Green Development and Tourism of Mongolia Ms D.Oyunkhorol and Mr Htay Aung, Minister of Hotels and Tourism of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar signed intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism. The Memorandums of Mutual understanding were also signed between the two capital cities of Mongolia and Myanmar, and between Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
On the sidelines of his visit, President of Myanmar Mr U Thein Sein held meetings with Speaker of Mongolian parliament Mr Z.Enkhbold and Prime Minister Mr Ch.Saikhanbileg.
At the official talks, the two sides have discussed issues related to the development of bilateral relations in mining, tourism, agriculture and culture sectors, exchanged views on sharing Mongolia’s experience in democratic transition and touched upon a wide range of issues on regional and international partnership.
