The Deputy Premier and the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Mr Rasit Meredow is paying an official visit here. Today’s visit is the first-ever high-level interaction in the 23 years of diplomatic relations.
The first leg of the visit was a meeting with the Mongolian Minister of Foreign Affairs Purevsuren, after which the sides signed an Intergovernmental agreement facilitating the two countries’ citizens to travel visa-free within 90 days.
Descendant of the ancient Turkic empire, Turkmenistan now has the fourth largest reserve of natural gas in the world and a rapidly-growing economy.

The Deputy PM and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.O.Meredow: Mongolia is a country that prioritizes peace and promotes development, as it is a member of the United Nations and other international communities. Turkmenistan has been consistently supporting the foreign policies of Mongolia ever since we established diplomatic relations in 1992. My country is interested in developing cooperation with Mongolia in politics, economy and humanitarian sphere.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia L.Purevsuren: Turkmenistan has obtained a status of neutrality in accordance with a UN resolution. During Mr Meredow’s visit the matter of intensifying the relations was discussed extendedly. The Presidents of two countries touched upon the matter during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit held in Dushanbe last September.
The sides exchanged views on cooperating in energy, agriculture, tourism and culture, and agreed on concluding required agreements and deals in the near future.
Turkmenistan’s side offered to supply natural gas to Mongolia.Mongolian side promised to consider the issue, as soon as possible.
After this meeting, the Turkmenian FM paid courtesy calls to the President and the Prime Minister of Mongolia.
