The United Nations highlighted the main achievements of Kazakhstan over 26 years. According to heads of diplomatic missions of different countries, this is, first of all, the improvement of the republic’s position in the world arena. Another important step was the renunciation of nuclear heritage. Progressive international community is supporting President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s initiatives. Membership in the UN Security Council became a global recognition of Kazakhstan’s role in the world. At present, Kazakhstan enters such leading international organizations as the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe), the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation), SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation), CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union). Over the years of independence, the official Astana has established diplomatic ties with 180 states.

- It’s very clear that your country Kazakhstan is committed to international peace and security and its membership in the UN Security Council coming in January is a great event. We would like to wish well in the Security Council. Particularly for countries that have never been in the Security Council before you are representing us.

The UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca, in turn, told about the results of the first year of Kazakhstan's work in the main organ of the most authoritative international organization and highlighted the important topics of Kazakhstan’s upcoming chairmanship in the UN Security Council.

- These two years, 2017 and 2018, of Kazakhstan’s membership in the UN Security Council is the evaluation of Kazakhstan’s role and diplomacy. Your country gained a good reputation. It is actively involved in addressing global challenges. Kazakhstan is facing a serious task – the chairmanship in the UN Security Council in January. The republic will be heading the discussion of the most burning issues related to global peace and security. It is also planned to hold sessions and meetings dedicated to questions of Central Asia, Afghanistan, the Middle East, disarmament and other as part of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the UN Security Council.
