The world community has high expectations from Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the UN Security Council. First of all, this concerns the building trust between the members of the Council and the international community. Kazakhstan has been a member of the organization since 1992. 26 years ago, on errand of President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Akmaral Arystanbekova was able to prepare the entry of a young independent country into the UN. Then the chairman of the UN Security Council showed confidence that Kazakhstan will make an important contribution to the activities of the organization.

AKMARAL ARYSTANBEKOVA, KAZAKHSTAN’S FIRST PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE IN UN SECURITY COUNCIL:
- Today we see that this wish of the Security Council members has come true, thanks to the balanced and consistent foreign policy course of the first President of Kazakhstan, for 25 years of its membership in the UN Kazakhstan went through the huge path from a newcomer to an authoritative member of the international organization.

The election of Kazakhstan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and its chairmanship is proof for this.

AKMARAL ARYSTANBEKOVA, KAZAKHSTAN’S FIRST PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE IN UN SECURITY COUNCIL:
- Kazakhstan believes that expanding the number of the Security Council members should reflect the interests of all regions of the world. The number of permanent members of the Security Council should include states that today possess significant economic and political influence. The expansion of the Security Council’s size should not affect the effectiveness of its work.

For a year of work in the Security Council, the Kazakh delegation contributed to the adoption of more than 60 resolutions and the country became a co-author of 11 resolutions and 27 statements of a chairman of the UN Security Council.
