Following a long-standing tradition, majority of Mongolians or more than two third of them are Buddhists.
The religion of Buddhism says that the Maidar is the 5th God among Thousand Gods for good time to teach own lessons to people on the Earth after arrival of Gautama Buddha, and Buddhist nations believing in the Maidar God that is a symbol of peace and safety in future.
According to history, Mongolians made for the first time their Maidar God in the year 1834 together with a three-storey temple which keeps the national style. In order to restore the cultural piece of Mongolians of traditional religion which was ruined in 1938, a project has been launched to erect a big tourism complex for Maidar God. This complex will be constructed on a 108 hectares area and 50 km away from the capital city Ulaanbaatar. The monument of Maidar God will be 54 meters height. The project called “Ikh Maidar” is being implemented under auspices of the Mongolian President Elbegdorj Tsakhia.
Within the project, scientific organizations have organized an international scientific conference entitled “Era of Maidar: Tendency of Social Development”. Thó conference has brought together scientists and researchers from the Academy of Sciences, the Mongolian State University, the Gandantegchilen Monastery and the Zuun Khuree Dashchoilin Monastery; Buddhism researchers from the USA, Russia, the Republic of Korea and France. They have delivered their reports on "Teaching of Maidar", "Buddhism and society", "Buddhist culture and art", "Buddhism and science, and role of Buddhism in Mongolian politics.
It has been planned to organize this scientific conference under the project Maidar.
