About 3,000 volunteers are working at the 28th Winter Student Games in Almaty. Among them there are both young and adult people working in different fields. One of them is Laura Lauden who has arrived in Kazakhstan from Arizona. She will turn 71 in a month. Laura Lauden was born in Chelyabinsk. She moved to the USA 20 years ago. She heard about volunteering in 2014 when she was visiting her mother in her hometown. Since then, she has worked at the World Championships in judo, taekwondo and Winter Swimming.

LAURA LAUDEN, VOLUNTEER, UNIVERSIADE 2017:

Universiade is a special sort of championship because it brings together the young people. Everyone is happy, everybody is laughing here. The event will be a boost for me for an entire year.

Laura works at the press center. She coordinates the work of the journalists.

Volunteers have been accommodated very well, it’s just a dream. The meals are good as well.

After the Universiade in Almaty, the retiree plans to volunteer at the Olympics in South Korea.
