Speech by President of Mongolia Elbegdorj at the “Developing Renewable Energy across Gobitec and Asian Super Grid in North-East Asia” Forum

President of Mongolia Elbegdorj delivered opening speech at the Forum held in Ulaanbaatar under the theme “Developing Renewable Energy across Gobitec and Asian Super Grid in North-East Asia”.
Mongolia has an initiative called “Gobitec” taken by the State, the President said in his opening remarks, and underlined that Mongolia aims to use huge sources of renewable energy in the Gobi region with the active support of State. This initiative was discussed at the international level. Thanks to the effort of our researchers and policy makers this issue has drawn attention of international scholars and researchers, he said.
Mr Elbegdorj said Mongolia has huge potential of renewable energy so it has a great potential to become global port hub of renewable energy. He added that Mongolia will make the best effort to implement this initiative.
Besides renewable energy, there is an opportunity to create super grid covering the NorthEast Asian countries. Researchers, experts and investors, representatives from international organizations and policy makers have gathered to discuss these two projects, which means they attach great importance to Mongolia, Elbegdorj said. Mongolia aims for renewable sources to account for at least 20 percent of power generation capacity by 2020, he added.
At the same day, President Elbegdorj received Mr Harti Urban Rusnak, Secretary General of the International Energy Organization and exchanged views.
