Research works are being conducted to assess reserves of solar and wind energy in Mongolia in times of increasing consumption of energy in Asia.
Japanese scientists have estimated that Mongolia has a big opportunity to satisfy the increasing needs of energy consumption. Furthermore, the Softbank Corporation of Japan which is the third largest telecommunication company in the world has initiated to develop a united network of renewable energy in Asia and has conducted a four-year research in southern region of Mongolia. "Mongolia might become a key country to provide the Asian huge consumption of energy" a general-manager of the Softbank Corporation's Board Mr. Shima Satoshi underlined.
The governments of Mongolia and Japan established last year a cooperation contract to export eco-energy and to construct a high-capability renewable energy power station. In frames of this contract, the countries will found a joint company.
By the research work conducted by Japan, an investment of 14 billion US dollars is required to erect a wind farm in southern region of Mongolia, and it has been calculated that the wind farm will do of 2.1 billion US dollars a year in profits.
It is considered that Mongolian wind energy reserve has a possibility to produce energy which is equal to 7 nuclear power stations. This means that Mongolia can provide itself with energy and also can export energy to foreign countries such as China and other Asian nations. It is very possible for Mongolia to become a big exporter of renewable energy in Asia because the country has 250 sunny days every year and enormous wind energy reserve.
