A giant statue of Maitreya Buddha with a big complex will be erected in a territory of Sergelen soum of Tov province, in southern foothills of Bogd Khaan Mountain in the so called Zurkh Khairkhan place of valley of Ugoomor, 50 km from Ulaanbaatar city.
Maitreya Buddha is called to be the Future Buddha who is coming to this world following Buddha Shagjamuni. He is the 5th Buddha who is going to disseminate his teaching of the good times. According to the forecast of many sages and prophets, when the Buddha of the future descends to this world, everybody will accept his teaching and will be united as one person. The Maitreya Buddha will come to this world at a time when humanity lacks loving kindness, morality, and when the world at large is looking for safety.
Buddhist countries have the tradition of making the Maitreya Buddha for wishing all the best in future.
Most Mongolians or two thirds of them are Buddhists. First Maitreya Buddha, 16 meters height with a national style was created in 1834 in a three-storey temple. In 1938, this monument was completely destroyed.
A project has launched to construct the complex for Maitreya Buddha. First part of this project will be a whole complex of facilities composing a 108 meter high stupa, 54 meters high building for the Maitreya Buddha. Designers are looking for a right solution of erecting the monument to keep the Mongolian traditional style, reflecting the modern time's progress and achievements. It will be a complex of religion, culture and tourism.
It is projected that the construction works of the complex will finish by 2020. It also aims to attract foreign tourists and to augment number of tourists. Designers said the giant monument of Maitreya Buddha will be higher than the Statue of Liberty by eight meters.
