$30m Worth Home Furniture Exported Last Year : Official

Tehran, Aug 14, IRNA – Head of Trade Development Organization said that home furniture valued at $30 million and weighing 12,000 tons were exported last Iranian year (ended March 20). Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 22nd International Home Furniture Exhibition today, Hamid Safdel added that neighboring states such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan Republic are importers of Iranian furniture. He further noted that furniture exports had remarkable growth compared to the figure for previous years, which stood at around eight million dollars. The organization tries to raise furniture export s to one billion dollars a year, he said. Safdel also said that total imports of furniture have declined by as much as $100 million, rendering trade balance negative. Meanwhile, executive director of 22nd International Home Furniture Exhibition, Hossein Norouzi said that the event attended by over 360 Iranian and foreign companies will end on August 16. Commercial delegations from Spain, Azerbaijan Republic, Iraq and Taiwan are present in the exhibit and an agreement will be signed between Iran and Spain tomorrow, he said. Based on the deal, Iranian and Spanish producers will exchange technical knowledge, technology and latest models of designing and production, Norouzi said./end
