73 Receive ASEAN Energy Awards

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- A total of 73 awards were presented at the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) 2015 today for the excellence, creativity, practicality and dedication to a cause in the field of energy. The Malaysian Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) hosted South-East Asia's highest recognition event. The award recognises the valuable contributions in four main categories -- Energy Efficiency and Conservation Awards; ASEAN Renewable Energy Project Awards; ASEAN Coal Awards; and, the Excellence in Energy Management by individuals. KeTTHA Minister, Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili, said the annual event introduced in 2000, aimed to promote regional cooperation in energy and conservation, and serve as a platform to generate opportunities and interest of the private sector, to be involved in the energy development of the ASEAN region in partnership with the public sector. "The ASEAN Energy Awards 2015 is significant as it recognises the achievements made in the energy industry, especially its role in increasing the standard of living and encourage the greener community through energy efficiency practises," Ongkili said in his speech at the awards presentation ceremony. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the '33rd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting & Associated Meetings' here Wednesday. --BERNAMA
