Acquire Information On New Markets Ahead Of AEC, Malaysian Companies Told

GEORGE TOWN (Penang, Malaysia), Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysian companies have been urged to acquire knowledge and information on new markets ahead of the Asean Economic Community (AEC) as it would provide catalysts for economic growth in the region. Former International Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz said by now, they should understand the challenges and opportunities awaiting them. She said they should arm themselves with knowledge and information before venturing into any unexplored and emerging market like Myanmar. "Malaysian companies must be brave to enter a new and unexplored market and they must also show resilience to stay for the long haul. "You don't expect profit or everything to be immediate when you venture outside the country as there are social differences and diversities to cope with," she told reporters here Thursday. She said a highly sought-after product in Malaysia might not be a popular choice in other countries due to cultural differences. The AEC is set for launch in December 2015 under Malaysia's stewardship. --BERNAMA
