Aeon Big To Import More Japanese Agri Products To Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Aeon Big (M) Sdn Bhd aims to import more Japanese agricultural products to Malaysia via its collaboration with the National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations. Aeon Big Managing Director, Mitsuru Nakata, said with the popularity of healthy and clean eating habits in Malaysia, the hypermarket was excited to expose high-quality, carefully-tended and innovative agricultural produce that Japan has to offer. "We will bring in more products, among them, fresh fish, fruits and vegetables, to Malaysian consumers next year," he told reporters at the launch of Nikkori pear and Ibaraki Japanese sweet potatoes here Monday. Nikkori pear and sweet potatoes are harvested in mid-October and stored until February. The sweet potatoes are from Ibaraki prefecture (the second-biggest producer of sweet potatoes in Japan in terms of production area and amount). Nakata said Malaysia and Japan had good economic ties as well as strong bilateral trade for a long time. "By exporting Japan's premium agricultural produce to Malaysia, not only are we maintaning the good economic relationship we have with this multi-racial country, we are also promoting Japan's quality products to Malaysians, exposing its citizens to Japan besides creating strong stand for the agriculture industry for both countries," he said. On the company's expansion plan, Nakata said, Aeon Big would add two more hypermarkets next year. He, however, refused to elaborate. Currently, it operates 27 stores nationwide. --BERNAMA
