AEROTHAI well-prepared for crowded air traffic during Lunar New Year 2018

BANGKOK, February 1 (TNA) - The Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd. (AEROTHAI) has been well-prepared to cope with more crowded air traffic during the upcoming Chinese New Year Festival. AEROTHAI President Sarinee Angsusingha (สาริณี อังศุสิงห์) told journalists of the arrangement on Thursday, projecting that air traffic should increase by about 6 per cent year-on-year during the Chinese New Year 2018 as there should be a total of 20,677 flights at Thai airports nationwide during February 15-21, or 2,954 flights daily, with flights on February 15 alone foreseen to hit a peak at 3,070. Sarinee reasoned that Chinese people like travelling during the annual Lunar New Year Festival and Thailand is one of their major destinations during the long-holiday period. According to the AEROTHAI president, inbound and outbound flights at Thai airports should increase by 1 per cent on average during the Chinese New Year, except the country's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport, as well as the Phuket and the Samui Airport in the South and the Mae Fah Luang Airport in the North, where the number of flights should increase more than 4 per cent on average, with flights at the Phuket Airport alone anticipated to surge by 12 per cent. The AEROTHAI president said that AEROTHAI has also been well-prepared for more crowded air traffic at Thai airports of tourist destinations with less popularity in terms of more personnel and equipment facilities to serve international travellers, including those at the air traffic control towers in Nan, Mae Hong Son, Mae Sot of Tak, Buri Ram, Trat and Ranong. The AEROTHAI president note that there are normally 350 inbound and outbound flights daily on average between Thailand and China, or about 27 per cent of international flights at Thai airports across the country, followed by inbound and outbound flights daily between Thailand and Singapore at about 110 on average, or about 8 per cent of international flights at Thai airports.
