Agreements on NPP construction in Egypt with Russia’s participation to come into force in December

BOCHAROV RUCHEI, November 21. /TASS/. Commercial agreements between Russia and Egypt on construction of its first nuclear power plant Dabaa should enter into force in December this year, Head of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev told reporters. "We will have the first concrete pouring on the site of the nuclear power plant after obtaining a license in Egypt," Likhachev said. "We have agreements with the Egyptian authorities on the agreements antering into force, all at once, all commercial agreements, in December of this year. Practical work will begin immediately after they enter into force," he added. Russia and Egypt signed an inter-governmental agreement to construct the first nuclear power plant in El Dabaa in November 2015. The facility consisting of four power units with 1,200 MW capacity each, will be built near the city of El Alamein on Egypt’s northern coast, 3.5 kilometers away from the Mediterranean Sea. The launch of the first unit is expected in 2024. The total cost of the project is estimated at $30 bln. Read more
