Agriculture Ministry to mark World Milk Day

BANGKOK, May 23 (TNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives will hold an event to mark the World Milk Day on June 1, targeting to increase the country’s milk consumption from 14 litres to 20 litres per person per year within ten years. Theerapat Prayurasiddhi, permanent secretary for agriculture and cooperatives told a press conference that the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) designated June 1 as the World Milk Day to marks the importance of milk as part of a healthy and balanced diet. In this regard, the ministry will hold an event to promote milk consumption for good health among Thais and to carry on and support dairy farmers, the occupation initiated by His Majesty late King Bhumibol Adulyadej to help farmers earn more income from raising milk cows. He said exhibitions on the World Milk Day along with on His Majesty the late King’s contributions to Thai farmers will be held at Makro, Lat Phrao on June 1. Dairy products will be given away for visitors and a parade, which will be kicked off at Makro will pass nine routes in Bangkok to encourage milk consumption. Moreover, leading supermarkets will join promotional campaigns by offering milk and other dairy products at discounted prices, he added. (TNA)
