Alibaba’s Lazada to set up e-commerce park in Thailand

BANGKOK, April 1 (TNA) – Lazada Group, a subsidiary of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Limited, is planning to build an e-commerce park in a special economic zone in Thailand, Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana said. Speaking after meeting with representatives from Lazada Group to discuss the development of the special economic zone, dubbed Eastern Economic Corridor (ECC), Mr Uttama said the company has a plan to set up the fifth Generation E-Commerce Park in ECC. The planned investment indicated that Lazada saw Thailand as a key hub linking CLMV – Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, he noted. The Thai Industry minister added that Lazada is conducting a feasibility study for the project. The study results, including details of the park location, will be concluded in May. Five areas in Chachoengsao, Rayong, and Chon Buri provinces are being considered a possible location of the e-commerce park, he said. Mr Uttama expects the project to materialize within this year and to be completed within two years. (TNA)
