AoT predicts 5.36 mil to use airports during Songkran

BANGKOK, April 6 (TNA) -- The Airports of Thailand Plc or AoT is set to provide more conveniences to customers during the upcoming Songkran Festival, where the number of arrivals is expected to soar to 5.36 million, and increase of about 12.05 per cent. AoT President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said AoT has predicted that air traffic between April 5-18 would be quite crowded, with a total of 32,357 flights or an average of about 2,312 flights daily passing through the Thai airports, which is an increase of about 7.22 per cent from last year The passengers expected to climb to 5.36 million, or an average of 383,188 persons using the airports daily, a hike of 12.05 per cent from the previous year. Mr Nitinai noted that the number of passengers at the airports during Songkran would be extremely high, prompting the AoT to provide more conveniences to customers by providing better cleanliness around the airports and restrooms, as well as increase the number of luggage trolleys and luggage inspection staff to ensure a speedy process. Public vehicle services would also be increased to cater to the higher volume of passengers, whereas other personnel would also be added to ensure safety and convenience at its all six airports. The President then advised passengers traveling during the Songkran celebrations to arrive at airport 2-3 hours in advance, as the airports would be packed with people, in order to prevent missing their flights, as well as to strictly follow the rules on what could be brought up on board to ensure speedy inspection process.
