AOT:Seized products from passengers at Thai airports are destroyed

BANGKOK, February 17 (TNA) - Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) confirms that prohibited products seized from international passengers at Thai airports have been destroyed systematically. AOT President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn made the confirmation on Wednesday, denying reports that the seized products have been returned to the market. Nitinai said that most of the seized items are perfume, gel, spray, toothpaste and liquor and they are to be sorted and then disposed of properly. Nitinai explained that seized items fall into three categories, including recyclable items, like plastic, glass and metal bottles, which are sold to recycling plants, liquid products which are poured as waste and unrecyclable items which are destroyed outside airports, while seized items which are hazardous, such as those containing explosives, are disposed of properly. The AOT chief encouraged international travellers to strictly comply with rules on items banned aboard planes. The AOT chief's remarks were in denial of reports that seized consumer products, such as perfume, liquor, skin cream, soap and roll-on deodorant, were put up for auctions after being seized from passengers before they boarded planes at AOT's Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket and Hat Yai Airports.
