ASEAN grains win World’s Best Rice Award 2018

BANGKOK, October 24 (TNA) - High quality grains of Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand, all are member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), have won the World’s Best Rice Award 2018. Adul Chotinisakorn, Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade, under the Thai Ministry of Commerce, told journalists on Wednesday that the first prize of the World’s Best Rice Award 2018, goes to Cambodia's Maly Angkor rice, while the second and the third prizes go to Vietnam's fragrant rice and Thailand's Hom Mali rice respectively. Adul stated that four criteria were used by a team of judge contest, comprising of experts and chefs, before the prizes were announced, including the scents, tastes, features and softness of contesting grains. The senior official said the World’s Best Rice Award 2018 was organized by "The Rice Trader, a world leading trade publication offering data and information on the global rice industry. According to the senior official, Thailand's Hom Mali rice has won world best rice awards from five out of 10 international stages so far and has maintained its popularity with high demand among global consumers. The senior official, thus, acknowledged that the price of Thailand's Hom Mali or fragrant rice on the domestic market has consequently risen to 14,450-17,050 baht per ton, while its export price has increased to about 1,144 US dollars per ton.
