ASEAN Land Transport Federation to be set up

BANGKOK, September 17 (TNA) -- Representatives of the private sector from 10-member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will on Friday sign an agreement to establish the "ASEAN Land Transport Federation," said Yoo Jienyuenyongpong, chairman of Land Transport Federation of Thailand. Mr Yoo said the agreement will be signed in Bangkok and the ASEAN Land Transport Federation would motivate the private sector of ASEAN engaging in trucks transporting goods to discuss and settle problems in the business before ASEAN Economic Community is implemented at this year-end. A brainstorming session among operators in the business will be held, said Mr Yoo, adding that the private sector would propose to its government to amend laws which pose obstacles to goods transportation by truck to enable the business smoothen. In another development, Thai entrepreneurs engaging in goods transportation by truck will stop using natural gas for vehicles (NGVs) in their business. The upcoming showdown is aimed at informing the Thai government to better understand that NGVs prices in Thailand are still too expensive. (TNA)
