ASEAN Seafood for the World, Asian Food Security for the World set in Bangkok

BANGKOK, July 25 (TNA) - Thailand's Department of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, will organise the ASEAN Seafood for the world and Asian Food Security for the World event in Bangkok early next month to promote and showcase regional fishery products. Department of Fisheries Director-General Adisorn Promthep told a press conference on Monday that the event will be held at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) during August 4-6, aimed to also present Thailand's potential and capacity in the production process and production chains of fishery products in line with international standards to create confidence among trading partners. Besides, the event will serve as a platform for Thai participants and those from other countries in the region to share their experiences and innovative technologies in the production of fishery products at the farm-level, as well as food processing and labour development. Adisorn said there will be two main activities in the the upcoming event, including a showcase of ASEAN fishery products and a seminar on fisheries to promote ASEAN fishery products on the global market. The senior Thai official assessed that more than 1,000 should participate in the seminar and over 10,000 people should visit the two three-day event. Echoing that the value of Thai fishery exports exceeds 200 billion baht annually, the senior official acknowledged that there is, however, a need to reform the management of the Thai fishery sector following the promulgation of the country's new Fishery Bill in late 2015.
