Authority backs Thai fashion products to global shows

BANGKOK, June 22 (TNA) - The Ministry of Industry vows to improve the production process of Thai fashion products to promote them for global displays and sales. Permanent Secretary for Industry Somchai Harnhirun said on June 21, while opening a Thai fashion show in Bangkok, that the fashion industry is among Thai industries where his ministry is trying to improve production processes to enhance their capabilities of relevant business operators. Somchai noted that the improvement is important as the value of Thai fashion exports are targeted to reach 1 trillion baht annually, about a 10 per cent year-on-year growth, consisting of 700 billion baht worth of direct exports, as well as 300 billion baht of products bought by foreign tourist arrivals in the country and delivered through border crossings. Somchai pointed out that the highest export value among Thai fashion products has rested with jewelry, followed by clothes, leather products and shoes. To promote Thai fashion products in the ASEAN Community (AC) and elsewhere, the senior official revealed that his ministry's Department of Industrial Promotion will invite leading designers from France, Italy, Hong Kong and Japan to Thailand in August to share their knowledge with Thai designers at a workshop, the planned session of which is part of his ministry's Global Reach Project.
