Avtovaz plans to increase Egypt sales to up to 10,000 cars per year

CAIRO, May 25. /TASS/. Russia's largest carmaker Avtovaz plans to increase sales in Egypt to up to 10,000 cars per year, Avtovaz CEO Bo Andersen told journalists in Monday. "We would like to increase sales. Tomorrow we will visit dealers, because the competition is tough here, but we would like to increase sales. 10,000 cars would be a good volume. Yesterday we met with our partner - they also expressed interest in our new models, Vesta and X-ray and the new generation of 4x4," he said. He noted that Avtovaz would discuss the possibility of selling these models in Egypt. Andersen said that Avtovaz together with an Egyptian partner have been assembling cars in Egypt, and have been selling them for 17 years. "This year we expects to sell roughly 3,000 cars. 1,500 of fully assembled cars for import, and 1,500 cars for assembling components," he said, mentioning the Granta model. In order to increase the sales volume, Avtovaz would not need to alter their Egyptian assembly area, Andersen said. "We will give our partners a new product, and we will hold management training. They would be able to handle the production of 10,000 cars. Most likely 5,000 cars would go for net import, and another 5,000 cars - for the local production," he said. Avtovaz has no plans to identify a new partner in Egypt, Andersen said. Andersen added that Egypt is one of the 5 largest export markets of the company, other markets include Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Germany. Read more
