Azerbaijan proposed declaration on support of transboundary power cooperation in South Caucasus

Baku, July 3, AZERTAC Azerbaijan proposed a declaration on support of transboundary electric power cooperation in the South Caucasus. According to the Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy, the declaration was discussed at the meeting dedicated to the regional electric power cooperation in the South Caucasus held in Tbilisi by initiative of Natig Abbasov, Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy. "Abbasov pointed at the implementation of the Energy Charter in two directions: EWEC (East - West) and NOSEC (North - South). Within EWEC Azerbaijan implements the project on construction of power bridge Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey. For this purpose it established 500 kV power transmission line Samukh-Gardabani connected with 400 kV PTL Georgia-Turkey and enables Azerbaijan to supply its power to the Turkish market through Akhaltsikhe substation," the Ministry says. Already this July Azerenerji OJSC, the Azerbaijan's national generating company, plans to get a license for operations at the Turkish power market. The meeting was held in Tbilisi due to chairmanship of Georgia in the Energy Charter.
